THE BOYS AT THE BEACH by ALISON QUIGAN AND ROSS BUMBLEY directed by DAVID CHARTERIS At Stables Theatre Cnr Arthur St & Main Highway Ellerslie Auckland Map Outline Four young guys from Palmerston North and surrounds decide to buy a piece of paradise in Coromandel so they can enjoy their Christmas holidays away from screaming kids in camping grounds. The actors move from being in their early 20s in 1974 to their mid-40s by 1998. A very funny look at the attitudes and New Zealand way of life and how it has evolved, in a particular small cross-section of New Zealanders we will all recognise. Contact details David Charteris email: sparkledarling@hotmail.com telephone: 0210 832 5160 Rehearsals Commence Tuesday 10 January 2017, Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 7.30pm, Sundays from 12.30pm Season Thursday 16 to Saturday 25 March 2017 - 10 performances including 2 matinees About the director David Charteris made a decision early in life between being an actor and a dancer. He has been a professional actor and director for over 45 years. David has worked for theatre companies in Whanganui, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Tauranga, Auckland and Hamilton, started theatre companies in Auckland and Whanganui and run other theatre companies in Tauranga and Manukau. He has been on several national tours of plays. He is now based in Auckland and is closely involved in ETS. He performed his solo show 'One of Those' at Q in 2014 and again in 2015. He has appeared in several plays at ETS, including three of the six one act plays in 2015 and then 'The Playboy of the Western World' in November 2015 followed by ‘The End of the Golden Weather’ in early 2016. David went to the premiere of this play at Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North in 1999. He says “It seems such a long time ago but this play has stayed in my head and never had the opportunity to direct it. Until now.” David likes to direct comedy [his first was Neil Simon's ‘Barefoot in the Park’ in 1975] as he likes to play comedy as an actor but has directed all genres, including musicals and operas, in the 120 odd productions he has directed. He describes his directing style as benign dictatorial. Cast Required All actors age from 22 to 44 so can be from either end or anywhere in between that age range. These ages are only suggestions and should only be treated as guidelines. If you are outside of this age range but feel you are perfect for the role, please come along to audition.
