Sister George is a character in a long running soap opera on BBC radio called 'Applehurst', a mythical village where she is District Nurse, and much loved by local listeners. However, ratings are falling and the BBC producers decide that the series needs a jolt to arrest the attention of the backsliders - nothing less, in fact, than the killing of Sister George.
