Brief Lives

9 to 13 November 1999

Patrick Garland has condensed the memoirs of John Aubrey, a seventeenth Century chronicler and gossip into a solo play. Having spent a lifetime collecting scholarly information and scandalous gossip, the aged Aubrey ignores, involves and entertains us by turn, while he reminisces through a whole day in this antiquarian, dilapidated, memory choked boarding house chamber. Under the direction of Ken Porter, Rex Steele recreated some of the magic that they both experienced on first seeing the play performed thirty years earlier.
