Rex Steele

A change from Primary Teaching to Private Sector employment 24 years ago allowed Rex surplus time and energy enough to rekindle his thespian interest. In recent theatrics he has retired, attempted to hang himself (on stage), impersonated Dame Edna, evoked Muldoon’s ghost and hidden behind a Santa beard. Director-hatted has seen “Curtains”, and “Blithe Spirit”. He last appeared on the Stables stage as Vince Freeman in 'Seat of Power' in the 2011 AMI One Act Play Festival.

Reprising the Shakespearian parental role as the Shrew’s Father in “the Taming of…” having been Juliet’s two years previously, and recently evoking the Shavian memory in “The First Night of Pygmalion” he then looks back into the seas of iniquity to “Habeus Corpus”, “Charley’s Aunt” repeated after a 50 year interval, “Major Barbara”, “Rehearsal for Murder”, “The Happiest Days of Your Life”, “It Runs in the Family”, “A Slight Hangover”, “What the Butler Saw”, and the solo, Ken Porter directed “Brief Lives”, before memory dims and past calamities seem triumphant in soft focus.
