In 1997, Michael responded to a strong impulse to attend an audition for a production of 'The Elephant Man' to be staged at The Little Maidment by Auckland University's Theatre Workshop. He ended up with the role of Dr Treves, the Elephant Man's doctor.
It was a rewarding and emotional experience that led on to performances as Lövborg in 'Hedda Gabler', Enobarbus in 'Antony and Cleopatra' and Edmund in 'King Lear' over the following three years.
The challenging depths and powerful insights of 'The Laramie Project' have inspired Michael to return to the stage this year in his home town of Ellerslie.
