Female Transport

18 to 27 May 2006

Who were those feisty women banished to the Colonies in 1807 and what were their crimes? How did they survive the voyage?

Between 1787 and 1868, the British Crown shipped men, women and children, in bondage, to Australia. This was the largest forced exile of citizens in 18th century history. Female Transport is an account of the life and death struggle of six women convicts forced together to overcome oppression and survive the tumultuous journey from England to Australia in 1807.
