At a rehearsal of the TV soap Albert Street Law, Paul is directing young Jason (his partner), old drunk Mark (nearing the end of his career as an actor and a womaniser), and Laura (prim and proper yet in love with Paul). After the rehearsal, they chat in little groups, and are joined by Richard, the gay and out assistant director. Secrets emerge, and the show's producer arrives just as all is revealed.
